Now, you need to hide the desktop icon of Recycle Bin so it does not take up additional icon space on your desktop. Here is the step by step procedure to show/hide Recycle Bin desktop icon in Windows and XP and Vista. First

Show/Hide Recycle Bin On Desktop in Windows XP
- Open My Computer, Click Tools Menu, then Folder Options.
- Select View tab, find Show Recycle-Bin Icon on the Desktop option, select it.
- Click OK.
Show / Hide Recycle Bin On Desktop in Windows Vista
- Open Start>>Control Panel, now click Appearance and Personalization and double click Personalization.
- In the left pane, click Change Desktop Icon and to remove the recycle bin from the desktop, clear the Recycle Bin check box.
- Click OK
